Sparwood resident charged with manslaughter in 2025 death

SPARWOOD — Tracy Erickson of Sparwood has been charged with one count of manslaughter in connection with the death of a 49-year-old man last year, according to Elk Valley RCMP. Police announced the charge October 30, following Erickson’s arrest on October 28.

On November 2, 2025, Elk Valley RCMP responded to a report of a deceased man in the 100 block of Aspen Drive. A November 4 police release said officers responded at approximately 9:52 p.m. to a pedestrian-vehicle incident outside the A&W restaurant at 131 Aspen Drive. Police said the man had been struck by a vehicle and died despite lifesaving efforts, and described the incident as criminal in nature.

The Southeast District Major Crime Unit took over the investigation. Sgt. Simon Caruth said the charge followed work by investigators and policing partners, and thanked members of the public who provided information. RCMP also acknowledged assistance from Elk Valley RCMP, BC Highway Patrol and the RCMP Forensic Identification Section.

Police said no further details would be released while the matter is before the courts. The charge has not been proven in court.
