Submit News or Promote Your Business

The Boundary Sentinel welcomes submissions from businesses, nonprofit organizations, community groups and public agencies throughout the Boundary, West Kootenay and Okanagan.

Newsworthy announcements may be considered for editorial publication at no charge. Businesses and organizations may also purchase clearly identified sponsored profiles and features when they want guaranteed promotional coverage.

Submitted News — Free

The Sentinel continues to accept genuine news submissions at no charge.

Submitted material must contain a clear news development rather than simply promote a business, product or service. Examples may include:

  • a business opening, closing, relocation or change of ownership;

  • a significant anniversary, expansion or new service;

  • an award, grant or major appointment;

  • a community project, fundraiser or public event;

  • a nonprofit or organizational announcement;

  • information with a clear effect on residents of the region.

Submissions are considered according to newsworthiness, regional relevance and available editorial resources.

The Sentinel may edit, shorten, verify or rewrite submitted material. Submission does not guarantee publication, placement, timing or use of every supplied detail or photograph.

There is no charge for editorial consideration, and payment is never required for legitimate news coverage.

Submitted Business Profile — $125

A submitted business profile allows a business or organization to provide its own promotional article for publication.

The package includes:

  • up to 1200 words supplied by the client;

  • up to three supplied photographs;

  • basic editing and formatting;

  • permanent publication on the Boundary Sentinel website;

  • one social-media post to each of our social sites (BlueSky, X, LinkedIn);

  • one round of minor factual corrections.

Submitted profiles will be clearly labelled Sponsored Content.

The Sentinel may revise headlines, remove unsupported claims and decline material that does not meet its publishing standards.

Sponsored Business Feature — $250

A sponsored business feature is written by the Boundary Sentinel following an interview with the business owner or representative.

The package includes:

  • one interview of approximately 30 to 45 minutes;

  • an original article up to 1200 words;

  • up to four supplied photographs;

  • one round of factual corrections;

  • permanent publication on the Boundary Sentinel website;

  • one social-media post to each of our social sites (BlueSky, X, LinkedIn).

Sponsored business features will be clearly labelled Sponsored Content.

The sponsoring business may review the article for factual accuracy, but the Sentinel retains control over the headline, wording, structure and final presentation.

What is the difference between news and sponsored content?

News coverage is selected according to editorial judgment and public interest. It is not guaranteed and may be edited or declined.

Sponsored content is paid promotional material. Payment guarantees consideration under the agreed package, but it does not purchase favourable editorial coverage elsewhere on the site.

A business may receive unpaid news coverage when it has a genuinely newsworthy announcement and may separately purchase sponsored content to tell a broader promotional story.

For example:

Submitted news: A local business opens a second location and creates six new jobs.

Sponsored profile: Meet the owners, learn about the company’s services and find out what customers can expect.

Editorial standards

The Boundary Sentinel reserves the right to decline sponsored or submitted material involving:

  • misleading or unsupported claims;

  • defamatory allegations;

  • deceptive health or financial claims;

  • illegal products or services;

  • political material presented as independent news;

  • content that conflicts with the Sentinel’s editorial standards.

Payment does not influence independent reporting or prevent the Sentinel from covering a business or organization in the public interest.
