NELSON — The City of Nelson's fall leaf pickup program is underway, with crews moving through neighbourhoods and posting signs.
Residents are asked to rake leaves from boulevards to the street edge, against the curb, while leaving enough space for water to flow. When heavy rain is forecast, the city recommends waiting for fair weather before moving leaves to prevent blocked catch basins.
The city does not collect leaves from private properties or clear leaves from sidewalks. Residents should remove wet leaves that could make sidewalks slippery.
Drivers are asked to move vehicles away from leaves, using off-street parking where available. Sandwich boards will warn of work in areas with many parked vehicles and mature trees. Questions can be directed to Public Works at 250-352-8238.
The Regional District of Kootenay Boundary now lists 2027 for a prescribed burn at Christina Lake Community Nature Park, although earlier project information anticipated the work in fall 2026.
