Creston RCMP warn of increased fuel thefts across valley

CRESTON — Creston RCMP are warning residents and businesses after an increase in reported fuel thefts across the Creston Valley.

In an October 29 release, police said officers had recently responded to several incidents involving gasoline and diesel stolen from vehicles, particularly work trucks. Some thefts involved auxiliary fuel storage tanks, commonly called tidy tanks. Investigations are continuing. Police say these thefts can carry financial consequences.

Police recommend parking vehicles in locked compounds, garages or well-lit locations, using security cameras or motion-activated lighting, and installing locking fuel caps or other anti-theft devices. They also advise owners to check vehicles and tanks for signs of tampering.

Anyone who notices suspicious activity around parked vehicles, equipment, fuel tanks or work sites is asked to contact Creston RCMP.
