Driver seriously injured after vehicle collides with moving train in Maple Ridge

A 54-year-old man was seriously injured after the vehicle he was driving veered off the road and collided with a moving train in Maple Ridge on Monday night.
Maple Ridge RCMP said officers were called at about 10 p.m. on Sept. 14 after receiving a report of a collision near Haney Bypass and 225 Street.
Police said the vehicle had been travelling eastbound on Haney Bypass when it veered off course, drove through a gate and onto the railway, where it collided with a moving train.
The driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle. Maple Ridge Fire & Rescue Services removed him from the vehicle, and Emergency Health Services transported him to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported.
RCMP said nearby train equipment and signage sustained significant damage. CPKC Police were notified, and all trains were stopped while emergency services worked at the scene.
Officers spoke with potential witnesses. RCMP did not state a cause and said investigators are looking into all possible factors.
