WHITEVALE — Some Whitevale Water Utility customers on Franklyn, Fraser and Banner roads may lose water service between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on October 26, 27 and 28 as construction work continues, according to an update from the Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO).

The district said in its October 23 update that interruptions may be necessary because of uncertainty surrounding the work. Wednesday, October 28, is the most likely day for an outage. The advisory applies to some properties along the three roads, and a map identifying the affected area is available through the RDNO's notice.

A precautionary boil-water notice also remains in effect for affected customers. The RDNO, working with Interior Health, said water must be tested and confirmed to meet acceptable guidelines before the notice can be lifted. The district said its existing level of water treatment has been maintained.

While the notice remains in place, customers must boil water for at least one minute before drinking it or using it to prepare food, wash fruits and vegetables, make beverages or ice, or brush their teeth. The precaution continues after water service resumes until the district announces that the notice has been rescinded.

Residents are advised to store a short-term supply of water ahead of possible interruptions for cooking and toilet use. After service resumes, customers may experience reduced water pressure, discoloured water or air in their plumbing. The district recommends running cold water until it clears, preferably through an outside tap.

The interruptions follow a water main break reported October 20 and planned construction-related outages on October 22 and 23. The RDNO expects the construction work to be completed by the end of next week.

Residents can check the district's online water notices, Facebook page or email update service for changes to the advisory. Questions can be directed to the RDNO Utilities Department at 250-550-3700.
