Nelson police respond to 176 calls in one week
NELSON — Nelson police responded to 176 calls for service over seven days, including property offences, violent-crime investigations, traffic incidents and mental-health-related calls.
The Nelson Police Department released its weekly policing summary Aug. 5, covering July 26 to Aug. 1.
Police said officers provided emergency response, proactive patrols, investigations, traffic enforcement and community policing throughout Nelson during the reporting period.
Property-related investigations included thefts from vehicles, bicycle thefts, shoplifting, thefts of personal property, a reported motorcycle theft and a stolen vehicle.
Officers also responded to reports of mischief, suspicious circumstances, suspicious people and vehicles, as well as found property. Police said a number of those investigations remain ongoing.
Police also attended several investigations involving reports of assault, assault with a weapon causing bodily harm, uttering threats, criminal harassment and domestic-related incidents.
The department did not provide information about arrests or charges related to those investigations. It said evidence is reviewed before police determine the appropriate course of action.
Traffic-related calls included motor vehicle collisions, fail-to-remain investigations, impaired-driving complaints and other traffic incidents.
Police reminded motorists to drive attentively, follow posted speed limits and not drive while impaired by alcohol or drugs.
Officers also responded to several well-being checks and mental-health-related calls. Police said officers coordinated with BC Emergency Health Services and Interior Health when necessary to help connect people with appropriate assistance.
Nelson police also worked with other agencies during the week, including the BC Ambulance Service, Nelson Fire Rescue Services and other law-enforcement agencies.
Other calls involved unwanted people, bylaw complaints, hazardous situations, public intoxication, disturbances, abandoned 911 calls, alarms, animal-related incidents and requests for general assistance.
Police are reminding residents to lock vehicles, remove valuables from sight, secure bicycles with high-quality locks and report suspicious activity promptly.
