Penticton woman, 23, dies in Highway 3 crash east of Osoyoos

OSOYOOS — A 23-year-old Penticton woman died after a pickup truck left Highway 3 east of Osoyoos and descended an embankment Sept. 19.
Osoyoos RCMP said officers were called at about 4:20 p.m. after an older-model grey Chevrolet Colorado travelling westbound left the highway near Hewitt Road. The truck was equipped with a ladder and boat rack.
Police and emergency medical personnel found two people inside the vehicle. RCMP said life-saving efforts were made, but the 23-year-old woman died from her injuries while being transported by ambulance to Kelowna.
The second occupant was treated for injuries. Police have not released that person's age or home community and have not said which occupant was driving.
RCMP said alcohol is believed to have contributed to the collision, although the investigation remains ongoing. Police have not attributed alcohol use to either occupant in the information released publicly.
BC Highway Patrol investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the collision, observed the vehicle’s driving behaviour before the crash or has dashcam footage showing the Chevrolet Colorado between 3 p.m. and 4:20 p.m. on Sept. 19 to contact the Keremeos BC Highway Patrol detachment at 250-499-2250.
RCMP released information about the collision Sept. 24. No further update on the investigation had been posted by Osoyoos RCMP as of Saturday afternoon.
