Gabriel Palatchi brings solo piano performance to Christina Lake Friday

Argentine pianist and composer Gabriel Palatchi will perform at the Christina Lake Welcome Centre Aug. 7, just weeks after releasing his first solo piano album.
CHRISTINA LAKE — Internationally touring pianist and composer Gabriel Palatchi will bring a solo performance to Christina Lake Friday night, three weeks after the release of his first album devoted entirely to solo piano.
Palatchi performs at the Christina Lake Welcome Centre on Aug. 7, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. and the concert running from 7 to 9 p.m. The performance is being presented by Christina Lake Arts.
The concert follows the July 17 release of Piano Sin Fronteras, or Piano Without Borders, Palatchi’s eighth album and his first solo-piano recording. The 11-track album brings together his Argentine roots with Latin jazz, tango and world-music influences.
Palatchi’s official biography says the new project reflects roughly 35 years at the piano and is being presented internationally through 2026 and 2027. Friday’s Christina Lake appearance is listed on his tour schedule as a solo performance, although the local show has not specifically been billed as an album-release concert.
Born in Buenos Aires, Palatchi began playing piano at eight. He studied classical music in Argentina before pursuing blues, tango, jazz and Latin jazz, and later continued his studies in Cuba with acclaimed pianist Chucho Valdés.
His music has developed into a fusion of Latin jazz, tango, funk and other musical traditions influenced by years of international touring and performance.
Palatchi has performed repeatedly in British Columbia, including several appearances in the Kootenays.
His touring history includes Trail’s Music in the Park on July 11, 2024, followed by performances in Nelson, Crawford Bay and Kaslo that summer. He also appeared at the Kaslo Jazz Festival in 2023.
Palatchi has a recording connection to British Columbia as well. His album Made in Canada was recorded live at Blue Frog Studios in White Rock on Sept. 2, 2017, and released in May 2018.
His 2015 album Trivolution received Gold Level honours from the Global Music Awards and was ranked No. 7 on the organization’s Top Ten Albums of 2015.
After Christina Lake, Palatchi’s current schedule includes an appearance with his trio at the Markham Jazz Festival in Ontario on Aug. 23.
Tickets for Friday’s Christina Lake performance are $25 in advance or $30 at the door for Christina Lake Arts members, and $30 in advance or $35 at the door for non-members. A cash bar and 50/50 draw are also planned.
The Christina Lake Welcome Centre is located at 1675 Highway 3.
