Several taken into custody in Robson, Waneta drug-trafficking investigation

Castlegar and Trail RCMP executed search warrants in Robson and near Waneta on Sept. 15 as part of a joint drug-trafficking investigation.

Castlegar and Trail RCMP took several people into custody Tuesday while executing search warrants at properties in Robson and near Waneta as part of a joint drug-trafficking investigation.

Police said the Sept. 15 operation involved Castlegar RCMP, Trail RCMP and the Southeast District Emergency Response Team. Search warrants were executed at a residence in the 8600 block of Waneta Highway near Waneta and another in the 1000 block of Mountain Street in Robson.

Multiple occupants of the Waneta property were taken into custody, while one man was taken into custody at the Robson property. RCMP said everyone was taken into custody without incident.

The police activity in Robson also prompted a brief hold and secure at nearby Robson Community School. RCMP said the measure was taken as a precaution while officers carried out enforcement activity in the neighbourhood and that there was no direct threat to students or staff.

Robson Community School, located on Waldie Avenue, serves just under 200 students, according to the school’s official website.

RCMP did not disclose whether anything was seized during the searches, and the release did not identify any charges. Police said the investigation remains ongoing and no further details were available.
