Meikle breaks BCFC receptions record as Chapman ties Sun touchdown mark
Okanagan Sun receiver Colton Meikle set the BC Football Conference career receptions record, finishing the Sept. 19 win over Prince George with 198 career catches.

KELOWNA — Two Okanagan Sun players put their names in the record book during a 63–14 win in Prince George last weekend, setting up the club’s regular-season finale Saturday night with home-field advantage in the playoffs on the line.
Receiver Colton Meikle became the BC Football Conference’s career receptions leader in the Sept. 19 victory over the Prince George Kodiaks, while running back Matt Chapman scored six rushing touchdowns to tie an Okanagan Sun team record that had stood since 1990.
Meikle caught five passes in the game, bringing his career total to 198 and surpassing the previous BCFC record of 194 set by former Kamloops Broncos receiver Derek Yachison in 2015.
Meikle entered the game with 193 career receptions, meaning his first catch tied Yachison and his second gave him the record at 195. He added three more receptions before the end of the game.
The record spans Meikle’s time with both Kamloops and Okanagan. He spent the previous four seasons with the Broncos, earning BC Conference all-star recognition in each of them, before joining the Sun for the 2026 season.
Meikle has already made an impact on the Okanagan offence this year. In a 72–0 win over his former Kamloops team Sept. 5, he caught four passes for 80 yards, with all four receptions going for touchdowns. The four receiving touchdowns tied another Sun team record.
While Meikle was adding a career mark against Prince George, Chapman was doing most of the scoring on the ground.
Chapman carried the ball 20 times for 104 yards and scored six rushing touchdowns. The six majors tied an Okanagan Sun single-game team record dating to 1990.
The performance also earned Chapman the BC Conference offensive player of the week award for Week 10. The Canadian Junior Football League described it as the best game of his junior football career.
Chapman’s performance came during a season in which he has taken on a larger role in the Sun backfield when injuries have affected the lineup. He rushed for 127 yards on 21 carries in Okanagan’s 10–8 win over the Vancouver Island Raiders Aug. 29, and has continued to contribute alongside the Sun’s other running backs.
The Prince George win moved Okanagan to 7–2 and gave the Sun a response to their 50–16 loss to the Langley Rams a week earlier.
Langley remains first in the BC Conference at 8–1, while Okanagan enters Saturday in second at 7–2 and Westshore sits behind the Sun at 6–2.
That makes the Sun’s final regular-season game more than a tune-up for the playoffs.
Okanagan hosts Westshore at the Apple Bowl in Kelowna at 7 p.m. Saturday. A Sun victory would clinch second place and home-field advantage for a BC Conference semifinal.
Westshore can still take second place, but the Rebels would need to beat Okanagan by more than 23 points. The Sun won the teams’ first meeting of the season 46–23 in Langford on Aug. 22.
The Rebels enter Saturday on a three-game winning streak after beating previously undefeated Langley 46–24 last weekend.
Saturday is Okanagan’s final game before the playoffs, with the Sun receiving a bye during the last weekend of the BCFC regular season. Westshore will play once more, hosting the Vancouver Island Raiders on Oct. 3.
For the Sun, the final home game of the regular season arrives one week after Meikle and Chapman produced two of the club’s most significant individual performances of the year — and with a chance to ensure the postseason begins at the Apple Bowl.
