VERNON — A man who went missing during a paddleboarding emergency on Okanagan Lake remained unaccounted for in the latest public update from Vernon North Okanagan RCMP, with no subsequent notice saying he had been located posted by the detachment as of Saturday, Sept. 26.
Police were notified shortly before 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, of a marine incident on Okanagan Lake between Fintry Provincial Park and Carr’s Landing, where a man and woman had been reported in distress while paddleboarding.
The woman was rescued from the water by a Kelowna Fire Rescue boat, according to RCMP, but the man was not located.
Vernon Search and Rescue was deployed to the area, and crews continued searching the water and surrounding area into Wednesday.
RCMP issued its public notice about the search Sept. 23. As of Saturday afternoon, that notice remained the most recent release listed by Vernon North Okanagan RCMP, and the detachment had not posted a subsequent notice saying the missing man had been located.
Police have not publicly identified the man or released his age in the official material available on the case, and RCMP has not detailed what led to the pair becoming distressed on the lake.
No further official update on the status of the search had been posted by Vernon North Okanagan RCMP as of publication.
RCMP seized suspected fentanyl and cocaine, a firearm and cash after executing a drug-trafficking search warrant at a residence on 24th Avenue earlier this week.
