Grand Forks man, 69, dies in Highway 3 semi crash near Danshin Village Road

GRAND FORKS — A 69-year-old Grand Forks man was killed Thursday morning after the semi truck he was operating left Highway 3 near Danshin Village Road and went more than 100 feet down a steep embankment.
Grand Forks RCMP said officers were notified shortly after 8 a.m. Sept. 24 that a semi had gone down the embankment from the highway. Grand Forks Fire Department also responded, and emergency crews found the truck more than 100 feet below the roadway. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The collision happened near Danshin Village Road in Electoral Area D/Rural Grand Forks, on the Highway 3 corridor northwest of the city. Regional District of Kootenay Boundary emergency information has previously placed the Danshin Village Road and Willow Road area about six kilometres northwest of Grand Forks.
Police have not publicly identified the driver. As of Saturday, Grand Forks RCMP had not issued a further public update explaining what caused the truck to leave the highway.
RCMP said the cause of the collision remains under investigation and investigators do not believe criminal activity was involved. Police have not publicly identified a specific contributing factor in the crash.
Highway 3 was temporarily closed at the collision site while emergency crews responded. RCMP later reported that the highway had reopened to single-lane alternating traffic.
Police are continuing to ask anyone who witnessed the collision, or who has dash-camera footage from the area around the time of the crash, to contact Grand Forks RCMP at 250-442-8288.
