Maple Ridge shooting was targeted, victim remains in critical condition: RCMP
A Maple Ridge RCMP investigation is underway after a 56-year-old man was shot Tuesday night. Police now say the shooting was targeted.

MAPLE RIDGE, B.C. — Police now believe a shooting that left a 56-year-old man critically injured in Maple Ridge Tuesday night was targeted.
Maple Ridge RCMP said in an update Wednesday that the victim, who is known to police, remains in hospital in critical condition. Investigators do not believe there is any further risk to the public.
The shooting happened at about 10 p.m. Aug. 18 in the 11400 block of 236 Street.
According to the RCMP's initial release, frontline officers were called to reports of shots fired and found the wounded man inside a vehicle outside a residence. He was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound and was taken to hospital in critical condition.
The Maple Ridge RCMP Serious Crime Unit took over the investigation, while Integrated Forensic Identification Services was called to process the scene. Officers also began gathering statements and canvassing the neighbourhood for surveillance video and potential witnesses.
The RCMP's initial release did not characterize the shooting as targeted.
In Wednesday's update, investigators said information gathered so far has led them to believe it was a targeted incident.
Police said officers are carrying out a number of investigative steps aimed at identifying potential suspects.
The area around the shooting scene is expected to remain cordoned off while the investigation continues.
RCMP have not publicly identified the victim or disclosed why investigators believe he was targeted.
