A report from the public led Slocan Lake RCMP to a stolen vehicle near Mulvey Creek on Aug. 20. Two occupants were arrested after police said the vehicle attempted to evade officers.

Two people were arrested Thursday after police recovered a stolen vehicle in the Slocan area.

Slocan Lake RCMP received a report at about 3 p.m. Aug. 20 about a suspicious vehicle near Mulvey Creek. The person who contacted police believed the vehicle might be connected to recent property crimes in the area and understood that police were looking for it.

Officers responded and located the vehicle on a forest service road. RCMP said the vehicle attempted to evade police before officers were able to stop it.

Two people inside the vehicle were arrested at about 6:40 p.m. without further incident. Police confirmed the vehicle had been stolen.

As of an Aug. 21 RCMP release, a man from Nakusp remained in custody awaiting a bail hearing. Police did not provide further information about the second person who was arrested.

RCMP have not said whether investigators have connected either of the people arrested to the recent property crimes mentioned by the person who initially reported the vehicle.

Police credited the public report and the response by frontline officers and specialized RCMP resources with helping officers locate the vehicle and make the arrests.

Slocan Lake RCMP encouraged residents to continue reporting suspicious activity to police.
