Grand Forks and Greenwood schedule Sept. 28 tax sales; Midway has none

GRAND FORKS — Municipal tax sales are scheduled for Monday morning in Grand Forks and Greenwood, while the Village of Midway says it has no properties subject to tax sale in 2026.

The City of Greenwood’s latest tax-sale notice, revised Sept. 25, lists two properties for public auction at 10 a.m. in council chambers at Greenwood Municipal Hall, 202 S. Government Ave. The properties can be removed from the sale if the delinquent taxes and interest are paid before the auction.

The Greenwood list includes 102 S. Government Ave., with an opening bid of $5,283.83, and 321 Copper Ave. N., with an opening bid of $52,205.45.

A successful Greenwood bidder must immediately pay at least the upset price by cash or certified cheque. Debit and credit cards will not be accepted for that initial payment. Any remaining balance must be paid by 1 p.m. Monday by cash, debit or certified cheque or the property will be offered for sale again at 10 a.m. the following day.

Purchasers do not receive title or possession immediately. Greenwood’s notice says the registered owner or the holder of a registered charge may redeem a property during the one-year period following the sale, which would cancel the sale and return the purchase price to the bidder with applicable interest.

Grand Forks also continues to list its 2026 tax sale for 10 a.m. Monday in council chambers at 7217 4th St. The city says properties available for sale were to be advertised on its website and in the Grand Forks Gazette on Sept. 9, 16 and 23.

As of Monday morning, the Grand Forks property-tax page did not provide a current list showing how many properties, if any, remained subject to auction after last-minute payments. Tax-sale status can change before the auction as delinquent accounts are paid.

Midway states on its annual tax-sale page that it will have no properties subject to tax sale in 2026. The village had scheduled its annual sale date for Sept. 28, but no properties will be offered.

Under B.C.’s Local Government Act, municipal collectors must offer for sale parcels on which taxes are delinquent. The upset price includes delinquent and arrears taxes, applicable interest and penalties, current taxes and penalties, statutory tax-sale costs and applicable Land Title Office fees.
