Four pets will be featured on limited-edition Yellow Dog Brewing labels in the fifth annual fundraiser
B.C. pet owners will have another chance this month to turn their dog, cat or other companion into the face of a beer can while raising money for animals across the province.
The BC SPCA’s fifth annual Make My Pet a Yellow Dog Brewing Star contest opens Sept. 9, with four pets to be selected for a run of limited-edition Yellow Dog Brewing beer labels. The contest beer will be sold across British Columbia.
Participants can enter by uploading a photo and story about their pet, then encouraging friends and family to vote through donations to the BC SPCA.
The three entries receiving the most votes will each be featured on one can in a four-pack of the special-edition beer. The fourth label will be awarded by draw, with each pet receiving one draw entry for every 150 votes earned.
“The prizes are such a joy – how special is it to see your beloved pet featured on a beer sold across B.C.!” said Alina Wilson, senior officer of digital giving with the BC SPCA. “Best of all, by celebrating your companion in this way, you're also helping vulnerable animals.”
Last year’s winners included Aardvark, a senior Chihuahua mix, and Mr. Eyeball, a one-eyed cat.
Mr. Eyeball’s owner, Arielle, said winning a place on a label was an honour because of her interest in animal welfare and rescuing pets through the BC SPCA.
The winners, two runners-up and the Community Choice Award winner will also receive prizes including custom glasses featuring artwork of their pets, digital copies of the artwork and Yellow Dog Brewing gift cards.
The contest has raised nearly $900,000 since it began in 2022, according to the BC SPCA. The organization says the money supports work including animal protection investigations, emergency medical care and pet food banks.
“We can't wait to see all the amazing entries and find out who will star on the 2026 special-edition beer labels!” said Yellow Dog Brewing founder and owner Melinda Coghill. “It's heart-warming to see animal lovers come together to support their beloved pets, while also making a real impact for animals in need.”
The contest is open to people 19 and older. It begins Sept. 9 and closes at 8 p.m. Pacific time on Sept. 27.
Full contest details are available at spca.bc.ca/petstar, with entries opening Sept. 9.
