GRAND FORKS — Three touring comedians will bring the Bad Decisions Comedy Tour to Grand Forks Station Pub next month, with a 90-minute stand-up show built around questionable choices and the stories that come from them.
Nelson Mayer, Chris Basso and Scott Porteous are scheduled to perform Sunday, Sept. 6. The 19-plus show begins at 7 p.m. local time at the Station Pub, 7654 Donaldson Dr.
Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door.
Tour organizers say the lineup includes performers whose credits span Canada’s Got Talent, APTN, Prime Video, Apple TV and the Winnipeg Comedy Festival.
Mayer, a Métis comedian from Winnipeg, has built a résumé extending beyond the touring comedy circuit. He hosted and starred in the APTN series Got Identity?, which followed his efforts to learn more about his Indigenous ancestry.
He won the Comedian of the North competition in 2020 and has appeared at the Winnipeg Comedy Festival. Earlier this year, he performed at Just for Laughs Vancouver. His Winnipeg Comedy Festival biography also lists a Best of the Fest award from the Los Angeles International Comedy Festival in 2023, along with appearances on CBC Radio’s Unreserved and SiriusXM.
Porteous may be familiar to some viewers through his alter ego Herbert Henries, a character he brought to Canada’s Got Talent. Porteous describes Henries as a “Comedy Dangerist,” combining comedy with unconventional performance and stunt elements.
Outside the Herbert Henries character, Porteous performs stand-up under his own name and has toured and produced comedy shows across Canada. He also runs The Joke Gym open mic and produces Comedy Invasion shows in Manitoba.
Basso rounds out the Grand Forks lineup. His stand-up is built around deadpan delivery and stories drawn from both everyday life and more unusual experiences. According to his tour biography, he has performed across Canada and the United States and currently tours with the Bad Decisions Comedy and Comedy Misfits teams.
Grand Forks is one of several stops for the touring comedians. Mayer, Basso and Porteous are also scheduled to bring the Bad Decisions show to Kootenay West Distilling in Trail on Sept. 25.
The Grand Forks performance takes place Sunday, Sept. 6 at Grand Forks Station Pub. Doors and ticket information are available through Jump Comedy, with the show beginning at 7 p.m. and admission limited to those 19 and older.
Eighteen Grand Forks athletes competed at the Canadian Junior Ultimate Championships in Surrey this month, with Natalie Sjoden returning home with a bronze medal as a member of Canyon Women.
