Area restriction issued around Jumbo Creek wildfire

An area restriction is now in effect around the 145-hectare Jumbo Creek wildfire, approximately 38 kilometres west of Invermere.

The BC Wildfire Service said the restriction was imposed immediately to protect the public and crews responding to the fire, identified as N21071.

The order covers Crown land surrounding Jumbo Creek Road, Blockhead Mountain, Mount Osiris, Glacier Dome and Paradox Peak. It is scheduled to remain in effect until noon on Oct. 15, 2026, unless it is rescinded earlier.

The east approach to the Jumbo Pass Hut is within the restricted area. The hut itself is excluded, but it can only be accessed from the west while the order remains in place.

People are prohibited from entering or remaining in the restricted area without written authorization, with limited exceptions. Those exceptions include travelling to or from a principal residence that is not under an evacuation order, using a highway, acting in an official capacity or supporting wildfire suppression and enforcement work.

Anyone who violates the restriction could receive a $1,150 ticket.
