Geddy Lee hints at charitable future for his Alex Lifeson tour shirts

Canadian rock legends Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson are back on the road together for the first time in 11 years, with B.C. dates coming in December — and Lee’s running tour joke involving Lifeson may eventually benefit fans and charity.
Lee has spent part of Rush’s Fifty Something tour surprising his longtime bandmate with a changing collection of T-shirts featuring Lifeson.
Lee discussed the shirts in an interview with Q107’s Joanne Wilder released Friday, after Rush wrapped a four-show run at Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena.
Q107 teased the interview by asking fans whether they had noticed Lee’s shirts during the Toronto shows, adding that they “may have the chance to get one once the tour is done.”
Global News, which published a portion of the interview Friday, said Lee described the story behind a series of surprises he had planned for Lifeson during the tour and how he hopes to turn the idea into something for both Rush fans and charity.
Exactly how the shirts will be offered, which charity will benefit and when that might happen have not been announced.
The Fifty Something tour brought Lee and Lifeson back on the road together for the first time in 11 years. Their previous Rush tour, R40, ended at the Forum in Los Angeles on Aug. 1, 2015.
The current tour celebrates Rush’s music and legacy, as well as the life of drummer and lyricist Neil Peart, who died in 2020. German drummer Anika Nilles joined Lee and Lifeson on drums for the tour.
The Toronto dates are far from the end of the road.
The tour continues across North America through December before heading to South America, the U.K. and Europe in early 2027.
B.C. fans will get two chances to see Lee and Lifeson before the end of the year, with shows scheduled for Dec. 15 and 17 at Rogers Arena in Vancouver.
Rush is also scheduled to play Edmonton’s Rogers Place on Dec. 10 and 12.
For now, fans hoping to add one of Lee’s tour shirts to their own collection will have to wait. Q107 has only indicated that the opportunity could come after the tour is finished.
