NPD responds to approximately 30 calls on Canada Day

Nelson Police responded to approximately 30 calls for service as people flocked to the Heritage City to celebrated Canada's 149th birthday.
NPD Sergeant Nate Holt said in a media release crowds were slightly larger than in past years as the Canada Day Holiday fell on Friday, making the event a long weekend for most people.
Holt said of the 30 calls, 10 were for separate liquor infractions, including one arrest for public intoxication while another person was apprehended under the Mental Health Act.
Canada Day celebrations, sponsored by the Nelson Chamber of Commerce, are held at the Lakeside Rotary Park with the event ending with fireworks hosted by Nelson Fire Rescue from the Lakeside playing fields.
"Overall 2016 saw a successful Canada Day event," Holt said.
"Nelson Police would like to thank its partnering agencies; RCMP, Nelson Fire Rescue, BC Ambulance, Nelson Search and Rescue and all the local and Provincial agencies that assisted in making the event a success."
