Hardy Skott

 May 8, 1942 – October 17, 2026

Hardy Skott, a longtime Greenwood resident and familiar face in the community for more than three decades, passed away on October 17, 2026, at the age of 84.

Born in Silkeborg, Denmark, Hardy left Denmark at a young age to work on ships, starting with cleaning duties before becoming a cook. He later lived in Lloydminster, Alberta, where he owned and operated a flooring business. He lived in Lloydminster for many years, with his first wife, Gloria, with whom he had three children: Christopher, Brenda and Timothy.

In the late 1980s, Hardy met Rosemary (Rocky) — in Penticton, B.C. In 1992, Hardy, Rocky and her young daughter, Kelly, moved to Greenwood after — as Hardy liked to say — stopping to "let the dog out." The little city's affordability, historic buildings and small-town character appealed to him, as did the opportunity to establish a permanent home and business.

After years of finding bargains at yard sales and selling his discoveries at flea markets, Hardy found a permanent base in what would become Copper Creek Country Store, complete with living quarters at the back. He went on to become a familiar face in Greenwood through the Country Store and My Udder Store.

His businesses were known for their eclectic assortment of goods, with seemingly every available space filled with merchandise. Copper Creek Country Store, in particular, was packed with just about anything a customer might be looking for. A sociable man, Hardy loved meeting people, chatting with customers and sharing a good joke. He enjoyed finding a bargain and believed strongly in the value of hard work.

Together, Hardy and Rocky had a blended family of eleven children. He is survived by his wife, Rocky; his daughter Brenda; five of Rocky's children, including Kelly; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sons, Christopher and Timothy.

A celebration of Hardy's life will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2026, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the McArthur Centre, 1355 Veterans Lane, Greenwood, B.C.
