Entertainment coverage moves from The Boundary Sentinel to SCENE 49
The Boundary Sentinel’s entertainment coverage is moving to a new home.
SCENE 49, a standalone entertainment publication from Birchbound Media Inc., will take over the Sentinel’s dedicated coverage of Canadian film and television, music, books and publishing, comedy, performing arts, festivals and other major entertainment events.
The move gives the entertainment section room to develop as its own publication while keeping The Boundary Sentinel focused on the Boundary, the Kootenays, the Okanagan and wider stories affecting British Columbia.
The Sentinel’s entertainment coverage has grown well beyond an occasional arts story. Its archive now includes Canadian film and television productions, new music and touring artists, authors and publishing news, theatre and comedy, performing arts, festivals and other cultural events across the country.
That coverage will continue at SCENE 49, with a Canadian focus and particular attention to British Columbia and Western Canada.
The change does not mean arts and culture are disappearing from The Boundary Sentinel. Local and regional arts stories will remain part of the Sentinel when they are connected to the communities it covers. Dedicated entertainment reporting with a broader Canadian focus will now be published through SCENE 49.
Separating the two also gives each publication a clearer role. The Boundary Sentinel will continue its local and regional reporting, along with provincial and national stories relevant to its readers, sports, opinion and Waypoint. SCENE 49 will have room to develop entertainment coverage without competing with the Sentinel’s core news report for space and attention.

The Boundary Sentinel and SCENE 49 are both publications of independently owned Birchbound Media Inc.
The move is part of Birchbound Media’s continuing development of distinct publications built around different areas of coverage, while maintaining the independent ownership behind The Boundary Sentinel.
