Driver dies in single-vehicle accident west of Nelson Thursday
Nelson Police continue to investigate an early morning accident Thursday.

Nelson Police said the driver was killed in a single-vehicle accident early Thursday (September 28) morning at the intersection of Highway 3A/6 and Government Road.

Nelson Police received the call at 1:10 a.m. of a report of an accident just east of Nelson on the edge of the city boundary.

Police said a black SUV was travelling eastbound into Nelson when it crossed the westbound lane before colliding with the rock embankment.

Police said the driver, the lone occupant in the vehicle, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Emergency Health Services as well as an attending physician.

The highway was closed for several hours as an RCMP Traffic Reconstructionist investigated the scene.

Alcohol is not being considered as a factor in this crash.

The Nelson Police Department, RCMP Traffic Services and the BC Coroners Service continue to investigate the crash.
