UPDATED: Wildfire south of Harrop not a threat to communities at this time

The Regional District of Central Kootenay says in a media release Friday the wildfire burning south of Harrop does not appear to have grown overnight, remaining at 20 hectares in size.
RDCK said BC Wildfire will be letting the fire burn as the current terrain is dangerous for crews.
"The plan is to extinguish the fire once it moves into a safer location," the release said. "BC Wildfire will continue to monitor the situation throughout the day."
The RDCK said there is currently a considerable amount of smoke visible in the area, but there is no danger to any structures or communities.
RDCK EOC monitors fire south of Harrop
Another day, another fire in the Southeast Fire Centre situated in and around the Heritage City.
The RDCK Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) has been activated to monitor a wildfire which is currently being fought by the BC Wildfire Service in the mountains south of Harrop.
The RDCK in a media release said the wildfire, discovered Thursday, is approximately 20 hectares in size. 
"At the present moment, although there is considerable amount of smoke visible in the area, there is no imminent threat to any structures or communities," the media release said.
Wednesday, fire crews headed off a potential disaster in the Taghum/Beasley after a wildfire was called in below Highway 3A at the Beasley Bluffs.
The .10-hectare blaze was contained thanks to aggressive work by fire rescue teams from Blewett, Beasley, Crescent Valley, Nelson and two BC Wildfire helicopters. YRB also helped fight the blaze, providing tanker trucks for firefighters.
Tuesday, Blewett Fire Department responded to a grass fire in the 4000 Block of Blewett Road.
The RDCK EOC will continue to monitor this fire situation in Harrop and will provide an update Friday, unless the incident escalates and requires further updates.
