Provincial Election Campaigns Kicking Off!

Vote. It's important. But first, be as well-informed as possible about the candidates and their parties.

The Provincial election will take place on May 9th. Are you, as a voter, fully informed about what the three parties (so far) running candidates in this constituency stand for? This editor has noticed a few apparent misconceptions out there. The Rossland Telegraph has a plan.

The plan is to send each candidate a series of questions, the same questions for all of them, and publish the answers for readers to compare. The questions will be about issues that have been publicized in the media over the past several months or more.

After answering the questions, each candidate can provide a statement about themselves and any other issues, not covered by the questions, that they think are important.  

Jim Postnikoff is the candidate for the Liberal Party of BC, Katrine Conroy is seeking re-election as the New Democratic Party of BC's candidate, and Samantha Troy is standing for the Green Party of BC. So far, Troy and Conroy have agreed to answer a set of questions. Postnikoff has not yet responded to the invitation.

We are not aware of any other candidates representing any other parties for this upcoming election, but if there are others, they will be welcome to participate.

The Rossland Telegraph has a bias against negative campaigning, so candidates will be required to answer the questions, and compose their individual statements, without making reference to other candidates or other parties. No slagfests!

Apart from that bias, we intend this forum to be neutral and non-partisan. Readers will make up their own minds based on the answers the candidates provide. We hope for a well-informed electorate, so please watch for the Q&A features ― they'll be spread out over two or three weeks.
