RCMP catch break in jewelry store heist

Grand Forks RCMP were able to locate some of the items stolen from Florences Jewellery and Gifts during a theft in December 2016.

Detachment Commander at Grand Forks RCMP, Sgt. Jim Fenske said in a media release during the early morning December heist, an unknown suspect entered the store, stealing approximately $100,000 worth of jewelry.

At the time RCMP Forensic Identification members attended and recovered some evidence and video surveillance images.

Fenske said Thursday (March 30th) Grand Forks RCMP, acting on a tip, were able to locate the clothing and tools that were worn and used by the suspect.

The clothes/tools were located on Miller Creek Forest Service Road.

Fenske said police will process the items and if evidence exists, will send them away for further testing at a forensic laboratory.
