POLICE BEAT: B & E, pedestrian MVA

Castlegar RCMP are continuing to investigate a business break and enter that occurred overnight on Nov. 28. Suspects broke into the business by entering through an adjacent business' wall. The business' alarm activated and the suspects fled with no merchandise.

On Nov. 30, at approximately 11 a.m,, Castlegar RCMP responded to a pedestrian MVA on Columbia Avenue and 4 Street. A 66-year-old female was struck by a car in the intersection. She suffered minor injuries and was not taken to hospital. The 78-year-old driver of the vehicle was given a ticket under the Motor Vehicle Act for failing to yield to a pedestrian.

“The police would like to remind drivers to be mindful of crosswalks and persons near them, regardless if there are lights and if they are lit up or not,” said Castlegar top cop Sgt. Laurel Mathew. “Pedestrians should also be aware of oncoming vehicles and be assured that the vehicle is coming to a stop at the crosswalk before stepping out.”
