Bruins run streak to six straight wins by stopping Leafs 5-2

The Grand Forks Border Bruins are for real.

Just ask the Nelson Leafs, and the Beaver Valley Nitehawks and the . . ..

Well you get the picture.

The Bruins scored three unanswered third period goals en route to a 5-2 Kootenay International Junior Hockey League victory over the Nelson Leafs Tuesday night in the Boundary City.

The win was the second straight for the Bruins over their Murdoch Division cousin Leafs and saw the Green and White lose for the third consecutive time.

Ironically it was former Leaf, Tyler Fyfe who had the last laugh against Nelson, scoring the winning goal on the power play nine minutes into the final frame to snap a 2-2 tie.

Fyfe, released by the Leafs earlier this month, finished the game with three points against a Leaf squad desperate to find anyone to put the puck in the net.

Garrett Briesbois, Trey Mason, Jordan Robertson and Nickey Leeder also scored for a Bruins team that held period leads of 1-0 and 2-1.

Levi Hulston and Austin Anselmo on the power play, replied for Nelson, now tied for third in the Murdoch Division with Grand Forks — both teams with 24 points.

Nelson once again out shot the Bruins, this time by a 42-27 count, including a 20-6 margin in the second period.

However, for the second time four nights netminder Anthony Galliart frustrated the Leafs.

Joseph Barton took the loss in goal for Nelson.

Grand Forks now has won six straight games.

Nelson returns home Friday to host Murdoch leading Beaver Valley at 7 p.m. in the NDCC Arena.

Meanwhile, Grand Forks looks to continue its winning ways Friday in Armstrong against the North Okanagan Knights.
