Trick-or-treating to protest starving students

Frustrated about student poverty, Selkirk College students are planning a food drive on Halloween night. Students will be going door-to-door in traditional trick-or-treat fashion asking area residents to provide non-perishable food items for the campus food bank.

“With little action being taken by the provincial government to reduce student debt, students are being forced to ask the community to pitch in,” said Shane Feddersen, external director of the Selkirk College Students’ Union. “Community members who want to support the cause can donate when we come on Halloween or at our campus office.”

The Selkirk College Students’ Union, Local 4 of the Canadian Federation of Students, represents over 2,100 students at Selkirk College. Post-secondary students in Canada have been represented by the Canadian Federation of Students and its predecessor organizations since 1927.
