IIOBC to Investigate In-Custody Death in Lillooet

The Lillooet RCMP has called the Independent Investigations Office of
BC following an early morning incident, which has resulted in an in-custody death.
The RCMP said shortly before 8:30 a.m. Wednesday (October 14), police were called to the Bridge Indian Band Office in Lillooet to follow up on a report a male had entered the band office and using weapons, allegedly assaulted three people.
Media reports said the man apparently attacked people in the Band Office with a hammer.
Police said prior to arriving, the suspect was subdued and restrained. RCMP members arrested the male but were unable to transport him as he became unconscious and unresponsive.
RCMP said officers immediately commenced CPR, which was continued by EHS who were staged nearby.
"Efforts to resuscitate the male were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced deceased at the scene," police said in a written statement.
RCMP said at least 10 people were injured in the attack.
Given that this matter is now considered a police in-custody death the IIO BC has jurisdiction and is en route to the scene.
