CRIME CLIPS: Locks cut at self-storage, weather contributes to crashes

It has been a quiet week for Grand Forks and Midway RCMP, with a mere 59 files on record and, of those, only four of note. "It dropped quite a bit, which it usually does this time of year," commented Staff Sgt. Jim Harrison. "We are continuing to do our checkstop program for the holiday season. So far some minor offenses and appropriate warnings given out, but you know, for the most part, pretty good."
Storage units broken into
On Dec. 16 at 4:40 p.m. there was a report of theft from the Boundary Border Self-Storage units on 19th St. in Grand Forks. "Apparently somebody went along and cut a bunch of locks off of four of the lockers," said Harrison.
RCMP are currently waiting for an inventory of missing items. "At this point we don't have any knowledge of what was taken and the investigation is continuing." If anyone has information about this incident, please contact the police or Crime Stoppers.
Fruitvale male charged in single vehicle accident
On Dec. 20 at 10:46 a.m. RCMP received a report of a collision in the vicinity of the Paulson Bridge near Christina Lake. Officers attended and located a white 2003 Chevy Avalanche that had crashed into the ditch.
The truck apparently lost control during the recent snowfall at a clockwise corner and started to slide. The driver overcorrected and the vehicle ran off the road into the ditch, hitting a rock bluff.
There was extensive damage to the truck but no injuries reported. A 22-year-old Fruitvale male was charged with driving too fast for road conditions.
Fog causes Midway collision
At 5 p.m. on Dec. 22 Midway RCMP came upon a two-vehicle motor vehicle collision on Hwy 3, west of the weigh scales and east of Ingram Bridge. The female driver of one of the vehicles suffered minor head injuries in the collision.
According to Cpl. Judson Mayes, extremely foggy conditions were the main cause of the accident. Motorists are reminded to be mindful when driving during winter weather conditions — please slow down and drive with caution.
Midway RCMP will continue to conduct roving Check stops throughout the Boundary Region during the holiday season, looking for impaired driving infraction, continuing to doing our best to keep the roads safe for all holiday travellers. If you suspect someone driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol do no hesitate to call 911 and provide direction of travel and license plate, forthwith.
