CRIME CLIPS: May flowers prove irresistible to budding floral bandits

There were 87 files total for Grand Forks and Midway this past week, according to Grand Forks RCMP.

On May 27 at 12:20 a.m. police received a report of a break and enter from a residential shed on Boundary Drive. The shed was alarmed, which woke the homeowner. The perpetrators took off immediately after the alarm sounded. A few small items of minimal value were taken. There are no suspects at this time.

Later the same day at 1:24 p.m. a report was received from Rilkoff's regarding the theft of approximately $250 worth of flowers. A witness observed a vehicle pull up early in the morning before the store opened. They saw a person put some flowers in the vehicle before driving off. The matter is still being investigated.

Police received a report on May 28 at 3:33 p.m. of a vehicle being driven erratically on Hwy 3 between Christina Lake and Grand Forks. The vehicle was passing on double-solid lines and tailgating.  Officers located the Alberta driver and vehicle outside of Grand Forks. He was given a violation ticket for crossing a solid double line. No alcohol was involved.

Around 12:50 p.m. on May 29, an officer observed a motorcyclist on Hwy 3 west of town, near Beach Road. The motorcycle was pulled over and checked. The driver, a local resident, was charged with driving while suspended and having no valid insurance. The motorcycle was impounded for 30 days.

Later on May 29 a report was received at 10:30 p.m. of an unlocked bicycle being stolen from a front yard on 77th Ave. The men’s bike was described as red and silver, with the words NEXT on it. It is valued between $200 and $300. There are no suspects at this time.

On May 31 at 3:53 a.m. officers responded to a domestic assault call on 25th St. in Grand Forks. The male was arrested for assault and later released on a promise to appear, with conditions, at a later date.

Later that day, at 6:24 p.m., officers were attending to another matter at a residence on 21st St. when they came across 29.5 grams of marijuana. No charges are being contemplated at this time, but the marijuana was seized.

On June 1 at 12:18 p.m. a hanging flower basket was reported stolen from outside of a Christina Lake business. There are no suspects and no witnesses at this time, but RCMP believe local youth may have been involved, as there were a couple of house parties in the area over the weekend. If anyone has information regarding this, please contact the local detachment.
