Police Beat: Minor thefts in the Boundary over the last week

Grand Forks RCMP Staff Sgt.Jim Harrison reported a combined total of 68 files last week for the Grand Forks and Midway detachments. The majority of these were “typical fare” according to Harrison, with the usual false alarms, accidental 911 calls, traffic complaints and criminal record checks.

On May 6 at 5:53 a.m. RCMP received a report of a break and enter in progress at the Bargain Shop on 4th Street in Grand Forks. Police arrived to find the front glass door smashed open. A suspect was later located with $593 of stolen merchandise in his possession. The 62-year-old Grand Forks male was arrested and charged with break-and-enter, in addition to theft under $5000. Drugs and alcohol may have been involved, but Harrison could not comment further other than to say, "They [drugs and alcohol] usually are [involved] in that type of thing."

Another theft under $5000 was reported on May 9 at 4:32 p.m. A pressure washer was stolen from East Lake Drive in Christina Lake. It may have been taken several days prior, as the complainant was out of town for two weeks and noticed the item missing upon return. The seven-year-old gas-powered Master Craft pressure washer is red and white in color. Anyone with information is asked to contact the local detachment.

The latest incident occurred early in the morning on May 10. Officers received a complaint of mischief involving two slashed tires later in the day at 6:16 p.m. The vehicle was parked in front of a residence on 19th Street in Grand Forks. The complainant heard a pop outside her house at approximately 3 a.m. that morning She looked outside and saw a figure running away from her vehicle. There is a suspect in the matter and the RCMP is continuing to investigate.
