Midway hockey parents sell-out fundraiser dinner

Midway hockey parents showed initiative last night by hosting a roast beef dinner for 150 at the Midway Community Centre. 

The main goal of the event was to help ease the financial burden for parents as they travelled with their children to games. 

Organizer and hockey mom Jerry Watson said she knew some hockey family struggled during the away games. 

"Some of them cant' afford to go eat at a restaurant with the rest of the team," she said. 

In order to lighten their load -- and the load of all the hockey families -- she organized this dinner to raise funds. 

There were 150 tickets sold for the feast. The adult tickets were priced at $15 and children's meals sold for $7. They sold out quickly, partly because the dinner was held after the Midway Snowmobile Drag Races finished.

Around 20 of the tickets were for children, but the rest went for the full, adult price. The total was just shy of $2000, before the cost of food was deducted. 

This money will be used for the remaining hockey season. 

According to Watson, the team's travels include destinations as far away as Spokane, Nakusp and Kaslo. 

This year, their PeeWee team is having their tournament in Kaslo, the Midgets tournament will be in Trail and the Atoms will be at home in Midway.
