LETTER: New dog bylaws raise questions for RDKB residents

On Feb. 28 the Regional District of the Kootenay Boundary (RDKB) gave three out of four readings to the new animal control bylaws.  It is their hope to have them adopted within three weeks. 

Not addressed in the district's bylaws are inhumane treatment of animals namely poor food, water, shelter and sanitary conditions.  No provision is made for boarding, grooming, or training facilities. The RDKB has allotted three weeks for general public involvement into the by-Law before it is voted into legislation.

The Kootenay Boundary Pet Dog Association is a group of concerned pet owners and owner operators of boarding, breeding, training and grooming facilities.  On Jan. 31, we did a presentation to the RDKB and submitted a draft of proposed bylaws.

If you own a dog or are an interested party, we urge you to attend the town hall meeting at the Senior’s Center in City Park on Tuesday, Mar. 19 for further information regarding  these issues and the tools with which to make yourself heard.
