Bruins' newly elected president steps down

Michael Wirischagin, president of the Grand Forks Border Bruin Association, has stepped down today citing a ‘once in a lifetime opportunity’ as the reason.

 

“I was presented with an opportunity not too long after taking the position in March. At that time I declined, and have wondered ever since if I had made the right choice,” Wirischagin explained. “I figured the opportunity had closed so I thought nothing of it. Since that time and after much thought the opportunity has presented itself again, and I can’t pass it up this time. Opportunities like this don’t come everyday.”

 

Wirischagin was unable to speak further, stating, “due to the nature of the opportunity, I can’t comment further.”

 

While saddened, Wirischagin said of his short stint that he “was happy to have served for even a short time.”

 

“During my couple months at the helm we were able to bring in a Coach and General Manager - Brent Batten - who I believe will be a game changer. As the organization moves on, my fingerprints will still be there,” he added.

 

While gone from the president’s seat, Wirischagin will remain as the voice of the Border Bruins with one year left on his agreement with the team.

 

Ward Faust is stepping up from the vice-president’s position to fill the vacated seat while the vice-president’s role will remain vacant until the next board meeting.

 

The board has the utmost confidence in Faust’s ability to lead the team in the upcoming years and, with his resources, know that he will be able to continue on with the rebuilding and resurrection of the team.

 

The Bruins hit the ice this fall with their main camp scheduled for Aug. 30.
