UPDATED: Environment Canada issues Snowfall Warning for Boundary, West Kootenay, Arrow/ Slocan Lakes

Environment Canada has updated its original Special Weather Statement Saturday morning to a Snowfall Warning, which is expecting snowfall amounts in the rage of 15 to 20 cm.
Environment Canada said the Snowfall Warning is expected for regions including Boundary, Kootenay Lake, West Kootenay and Arrow Lake - Slocan Lake.
Areas of Fauquier, Burton, Shelter Bay and New Denver, Balfour, Ainsworth, Kaslo, Meadow Creek and Nelson may also see high accumulations of snow.
Environment Canada said said Highway 3 — Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass — can expect snowfall accumulations of 30 to 40 cm between Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
“As the cold front arrives this afternoon and stalls over the region, narrow bands of heavy snow will develop over Arrow Lake - Slocan Lake communities as well as West Kootenay and Kootenay Lake,” Environment Canada said.
"Any community under these bands will experience heavy snow while light accumulation of snow or even light rain will occur a few kilometres down the road,” Environment Canada added.
Environment Canada said a total of 15 cm of snow will fall from these bands of snow.
Drivers should Be prepared to for changing road conditions with visibility that may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.
“Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow,” Environment Canada said.

Environment Canada issues Special Weather statement for Highway 3
Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather statement Thursday for Highway 3 — Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass — calling for heavy snow with strong wins expected Friday evening through to Saturday.
“A weather system will bring heavy snow to parts of interior BC Friday evening through Saturday,” the Environment Canada website said.
“Total snow accumulations of 15 to 25 cm are expected before the snow tapers off Saturday evening.”
Environment Canada said strong southwesterly winds associated with the system will result in blowing snow conditions with low visibilities.
Drivers should be prepared for challenging driving conditions on the road.
