Turkey Trot draws a crowd
By Allyson Kenning
Monday morning saw Rossland’s first Turkey Trot event at the head of Centennial Trail. Organized by Pat Hinds, owner of Mountain Life, the race was sponsored by Ferraro Foods, Bear Country Kitchen, Ross Vegas, and Mountain Life, and all the proceeds went to the Rossland Skate Park Association.
There were three races: a 1km for younger kids, a 5km for older kids and adults, and a 10km that went up Kootenay Columbia Mountain, around the TechnoGrind, and down Monte Christo Road. There were 26 runners in the 1km event, with a few parents participating with their children, six 5km runners, and 16 10km runners.
All runners were awarded at the finish line with chocolate medals made by Mountain Nugget, and there was hot chocolate and cookies provided by Alpine Grind. 8 - 10 volunteers helped with the event, and a good time was had by all!
