POLICE: Missing man found safe but thirsty

A senior who went missing from his campsite at Texas Creek in Christina Lake, B.C. on Friday was found late in the day safe, but thirsty. Grand Forks RCMP detachment was contacted as family members became concerned when he did not return from a short hike. 

The 65-year-old man from Ontario left the campground at 7:00 a.m., Sept. 10 and was reported missing after 1:00 p.m when he failed to return from his hike. He had left without food or water. 

The RCMP helicopter was called in and an air search was conducted with negative results due to the thick bush. According to Cpl. Richard Lanz areas of the trail were unable to be seen from the air.

"A ground search was conducted by the Grand Forks Search and Rescue and the Castlegar Search and Rescue was also called in to assist with the ground search and brought in a boat for water search," said Lanz. "The male was located at dark on the Deer Point Trail by Trappers Creek."

The man was brought down to the lake from the trail and transported by boat to the Texas Creek boat launch where he was met by the B.C. Ambulance. He was examined and then released to his family.

"The man was in good spirits, cold, thirsty and hungry," said Lanz.
