POLICE: Man's body found in Kettle River

The body of the man who went missing on June 12 while on a canoe trip down the Kettle River has been recovered. On July 1 at about 1:00 p.m. the Midway RCMP received a report that a body had been located in the river by Zamora Road near Westbridge, B.C. They attended the scene with swift water rescue units from Penticton and Nelson. They recovered the body which was later identified as 40-year-old Dimitri Kolodka.

An autopsy was performed and the cause of death was due to blunt force trauma, consistent with injuries from being in the river and in class five rapids. No foul play is suspected.

Kolodka had gone canoeing on the Kettle River when the canoe he and another man were travelling in capsized at some class five rapids and falls. Search and rescue teams were called in from Grand Forks, Penticton and Nelson, along with swift water rescue but while the canoe was recovered at the time, Kolodka could not be located.
