The Boundary Sentinel's Shop Local Giveaways celebrate independent businesses and organizations in British Columbia by introducing readers to local products, services and experiences.
The following rules apply to all Shop Local Giveaways unless otherwise specified in an individual giveaway announcement.
Eligibility
Giveaways are open to British Columbia residents aged 19 or older, unless the individual giveaway states different eligibility requirements.
Employees of The Boundary Sentinel, participating prize sponsors and their immediate families are not eligible to enter.
How to enter
No purchase is necessary. Entrants must complete the official entry form associated with the giveaway they wish to enter.
Only one entry per person is permitted for each giveaway. Readers may enter multiple giveaways, provided they meet the eligibility requirements for each.
Following, liking or sharing social media accounts or posts is not required to enter and does not increase the chances of winning. Newsletter subscriptions are entirely optional.
Prizes and deadlines
Each giveaway announcement will identify the prize sponsor, prize description, number of prizes, approximate retail value, entry opening and closing dates, and any geographical or pickup restrictions.
Prizes have no cash alternative unless otherwise stated. Winners are responsible for collecting prizes or arranging delivery according to the conditions specified in the individual giveaway.
Winner selection
Winners will be selected through a random draw from eligible entries received before the advertised deadline.
The odds of winning depend on the total number of eligible entries received for the giveaway.
Selected entrants will be contacted by email and must correctly answer a mathematical skill-testing question before being declared winners.
Selected entrants must respond within 72 hours of notification. If an entrant cannot be contacted, does not respond within the specified period, or is found ineligible, another entry may be drawn.
Personal information and privacy
The Boundary Sentinel collects entrants' names, email addresses and other information requested on the entry form solely to administer giveaways, verify eligibility and contact selected entrants.
Personal information will not be sold or added to marketing lists without appropriate consent.
Entrants may separately choose to subscribe to The Boundary Sentinel's newsletter, delivered through Substack. Declining the newsletter subscription does not affect giveaway eligibility or chances of winning.
Information necessary to coordinate prize collection may be shared with the sponsoring business after the winner has been notified, where appropriate and with the winner's knowledge.
Publication of winners
The Boundary Sentinel may announce that a winner has been selected. A winner's name, photograph or other identifying information will be published only with their consent.
Administration
The Boundary Sentinel reserves the right to verify entries, disqualify fraudulent or duplicate submissions, and make changes necessary to protect the fairness and integrity of a giveaway, subject to applicable law.
Each giveaway is administered by The Boundary Sentinel. Participating businesses provide the advertised prizes unless otherwise stated.
Social media disclaimer
Shop Local Giveaways are not sponsored, endorsed, administered by or associated with Facebook, Instagram or Meta.
